Paradise lost: The Juan Fernandez Archipelago – better known as the Robinson Crusoe Island – was hit hard by the tsunami following the massive earthquake in Chile. Many of the 600 inhabitants lost their homes, the infrastructure is widely damaged. Juan Fernandez, located 670 km off the south american coast, is one of the most famous (and remote) spots in the pacific. It was here that the sailor Alexander Selkirk was marooned in 1704 and lived in solitude for more than four years. Selkirk inspired Daniel Defoe to write the classic novel, Robinson Crusoe. Juan Fernandez today is a World Biosphere Reserves and well known for many endemic species like the Magellanic Penguin.

On 20 March, 3 weeks after the devastation of the Robinson Crusoe island, a ship, set up on behalf of the municipality of Lo Barnechea, a district of Santiago de Chile, will leave the port of Valparaiso, with 40 prefabricated houses completely furnished and equipped. Damit kann vorübergehend die grösste Not der Insulaner im Bereich Wohnen gelindert werden!
Mit der Entwicklung eines Konzeptes für den Wiederaufbau der Insel hat Lo Barnechea in der Zwischenzeit die ib Chile relative bekannten Architekten Patrick Turner http://www.turner.cl und Félix de Amesti http://www.urbe.cl beauftragt.

Con el fin de aliviar la situación de los isleños, el próximo sábado, un buque cargado con 40 casas prefabricadas completamente amueblado y equipado sale del puerto de Valparaíso. Financiando por la Municipalidad de Lo Barnechea, un distrito de Santiago de Chile. A poco mas de 3 semanas del devastador tsunami por lo menos se puede aliviar la situación habitacional de los isleños.
Para desarrollar de un concepto para la reconstrucción de la isla, Lo Barnechea encargo además a los arquitectos Patrick Turner http://www.turner.cl y Félix de Amesti http://www.urbe.cl el estudio correspondiente.
After new tsunami alert: Islanders shocked and enervated
Yesterday, March 11th, during the swearing in of the new Chilean President Sebastian Piñera, occurred at 11:48 (CET 15:48)another major earthquake.
Due to the strength of 7.2 degrees, minutes later was declared a tsunami warning for much of the Chilean coast. This warning put the population on the coast of Chile as well as the islanders of the Robinson Crusoe Island in panic. Since the heavy tsunami of February 27 are still 6 people missing on the island.

Insulaner nach erneutem Tsunami Alarm mit den Nerven am Ende.
Gestern, dem 11. März, kam es, währende der Vereidigung des neuen chilenischen Präsidenten Sebastian Piñera, um 11 Uhr 48 Ortszeit (MEZ 15:48) zu einem weiteren schweren Erdbeben.
Auf Grund der Stärke des Bebens von 7,2 wurde wenigen Minuten später eine Tsunami Warnung für weite Teile der chilenischen Küste ausgerufen. Diese Warnung setzte nicht nur die Bevölkerung an der Küste Chiles in Panik, sondern auch die Insulaner der Robinson Crusoe Insel. Dort werden noch immer 6 Personen seit dem schwerem Tsunami vom 27.2 vermisst.
Geldspenden für den Wiederaufbau der Robinson Crusoe Insel können mittlerweile auch direkt auf das Spendenkonto der Gemeindeverwaltung des Juan Fernandez Archipel überweisen werden:

Nueva alerta de tsunami pone Isleños con los nervios a la punta.
Ayer, 11 de marzo, se produjo durante la toma de posesión del nuevo presidente de Chile, Sebastián Piñera, a las 11 horas 48 (15:48 CET) otro gran terremoto.
Debido a la fuerza del sismo con una magnitud de 7.2, minutos más tarde fue declarado una alerta de tsunami para gran parte de la costa chilena. Esta advertencia puso la población de la costa de Chile en pánico, igual como los isleños de la isla Robinsón Crusoe. En la cual todavía hay 6 personas desaparecidas desde el tsunami en la madrugada del 27 de febrero.
Para colaborar con la reconstrucción de la Isla Robinsón Crusoe, donaciones monetarias puede ahora ser transferidos directamente a la ilustre municipalidad del archipiélago de Juan Fernández:

Reconstruction of the Robinson Crusoe island will cost 50 billion pesos (about 97 million US Dolar / 72 million Euro)
The mayor of Robinson Crusoe Island, Leopoldo Gonzalez, estimates the cost of rebuilding the Robinson Crusoe island in the range of about 97 million USD / 72 million Euro.
"We lost everything, electricity, wastewater and drinking water systems, schools, administration, shops, the most necessary things, and do the people standing before anything. The reconstruction of the island will probably take at least 3 years." Said Gonzalez yesterday during his first visit to Valparaiso.
Wiederaufbau der Robinson Crusoe Insel kostet 50 Milliarden Pesos (ca. 72 Mio. Euro)
Der Bürgermeister der Robinson Crusoe Insel, Leopoldo Gonzalez, beziffert die Kosten für den Wiederaufbau der Robinson Crusoe Insel im Bereich von ca. 72 Mio. Euro.
"Wir haben alles verloren, Stromnetz, die Abwasser- und Trinkwasserleitungen, Schule, Verwaltung, Geschäfte, die notwendigsten Dinge, und dazu die Menschen die vor dem nichts stehen. Der Wiederaufbau der Insel wird wohl mindestens 3 Jahre dauern." Meinte Gonzalez gestern bei seinem ersten Besuch in Valparaiso.
50 mil millones de pesos costaría reconstruir Juan Fernández, según su alcalde, Leopoldo González
"No hay un costo claro, pero hay que considerar la recuperación de la red eléctrica, el alcantarillado, agua potable, además de oficinas y comercio, eso es tan básico, como profundo para el desarrollo de la isla, además de los damnificados que lo han perdido todo", señaló el alcalde de Juan Fernández, Leopoldo González, quien en la tarde de ayer visitó Valparaíso.
Para González, además de atender las necesidades de los damnificados de la isla, las prioridades son el colegio, la municipalidad y el jardín; proyectos que según el alcalde deberían estar listos en tres años más.
